Keeping exchange accounts safe on shared phones and public computers in Kenya

Guides · 2026-10-07

Not everyone has a private device for every task. In Kenya, it is common to borrow a family member's phone, use a shared laptop at home or log in from a cyber cafe when your own phone is out of charge. Each of these situations can leave traces behind: saved passwords, open sessions, autofill data or even a keylogger on a public machine. Exchange accounts on Binance, OKX, Bybit or Bitget hold real value, so they deserve stricter habits than social media. This guide sets out simple rules for when shared devices cannot be avoided, and what to check afterwards from your own phone.

Avoid public computers for exchanges

Treat cyber cafe and office computers as untrusted. You cannot know what software is installed on them, and some public machines have been found running tools that record keystrokes. If you must check something urgently, look at prices without logging in, and wait until you have your own device for anything involving your account, especially withdrawals or security changes.

Rules for shared family devices

On a shared phone or laptop, never let the browser or app save your password, and always log out completely when you finish. Use a private browsing window if you are on a browser. Do not install your authenticator app on a device that someone else uses regularly. If several family members trade, each person should have their own account in their own name.

Check from your own device afterwards

After using any device that is not yours, open the official exchange app on your own phone and look at the list of active sessions and devices. End any session left on the shared device. Check that no new withdrawal address or API key was added, and review recent login history for anything you do not recognise.

Strengthen the basics

A unique password, a strong second factor and a withdrawal address whitelist make it much harder for anyone who sees your password to move funds. Set an anti-phishing code if the platform offers it. If you think your password was exposed on a shared device, change it from your own phone straight away and reset two-factor authentication as a precaution.

Digital assets are volatile and derivatives can amplify losses. This website has no login, wallet connection, deposit form or customer-support chat.
